The Battle With Bed Bugs Can Be Won

Posted on

Finding that you have bed bugs is a very unpleasant experience. Bed bug bites itch like crazy and can become very inflamed. If you find that you have bed bugs, you need to make sure you act as quickly as possible. The longer you wait to take action, the more likely it is that the bed bugs will actually spread over other parts of your home. Bed bugs can infest couches, chairs, and even carpet. There are a few things that you can do to get rid of bed bugs. Here are some simple steps to kill the little pests.

Stop The Spread

As mentioned previously, bed bugs will not sit back and be isolated. Bed bugs are going to try and spread as fast and as far as they possibly can. There are a few steps that you can take to keep them from spreading through the home. One of the most important ways that you can stop bed bugs from spreading is sealing anything you take out of the room. If you are going to take the sheets off of your bed, make sure they are in a sealed plastic bag. If you have an infested couch, vacuum and throw away the bag.

Killing The Pests

You are going to want to kill every single bed bug that is in your house. If you have caught the bed bugs in an early stage and they are only in your bed, then you can wash and dry the sheets. Make sure that you dry your sheets on high for at least 30 minutes, as it is the heat that actually kills the bed bugs. It is likely that one single treatment will not get rid of all the bed bugs. You will most likely need to also use a pesticide. One of the most effective and safe pesticides is diatomaceous earth. The diatomaceous earth will puncture the exoskeleton of the bed bugs and cause them to dehydrate and die. Be thorough with your application of diatomaceous earth through the infested areas. Then be sure to vacuum everything up.

Professionals

If you find that you are not able to kill all the bed bugs, a professional may be the answer. He or she will come into the home, effectively assess the situation, and know how best to kill the bed bugs. The pest control technician will have access to pesticides that most homeowners will not be able to get ahold of. Professionals will be safe and efficient with killing and removing your bed bugs.
